Medium dark in color, aromas of red cherry and raspberry fruit combine with a spicy note reminiscent of caraway. Lively natural acidity frames the velvety mid-palate which delivers the bright fruit flavors in a super soft lingering finish. This is a perfectly balanced Pinot that drinks pleasingly and will develop with years of bottle-aging.
Unique for the Carneros region of the southern Napa Valley, the Pinot Noir from the Hudson Vineyard is quite Burgundian in style. Benefiting from the extreme drainage of upper Carneros volcanic geology, the stressed vines have imparted fantastic character to the fruit while the cool proximity to the Bay keeps the natural acidity in perfect balance.
Even tonnages of a French clone and a UC Davis clone contribute a femininity and masculinity – two separate cuvées aged in two separate oak regimes to create a beautiful pair of wines which are blended after aging on the lees for one year. With a few years of bottle age, the integration is complete.
